Peter Sutter, an extremely accomplished sailor and local sailmaker, commissioned Tom’s first offshore cruising design, Wild Spirit. Cold molded in Santa Cruz, Wild Spirit and Wildflower were among the first cruisers in the world to use a separated keel and skeg hung rudder to allow the boat to steer straight in a seaway. This design proved to be a superior solution to the popular long keels of the 20th century.

Wild Spirit helped revolutionize offshore cruising. With over 120,000 miles cruising the Pacific, she has proven to be safe, strong, and easy to handle. Happily, Wild Spirit found a wonderful new owner, Warren Sanke, to execute a top-notch restoration.
