Rage was conceived to break records off the west coast in style. In her first West Marine Pacific Cup, Rage knocked seven hours off the 1986 record set by Bill Lee’s legendary Merlin. In 1996, Rage proceeded to demolish her own record. In 1998, Rage had her fastest trip to Hawaii at 6 days and 19 hours.

Steve Rander wanted to steer Rage with a tiller and build her in his COVE construction method. Her hull is two diagonal layers of 1/8” cedar and spruce on either side of 1” foam core. Her deck is 6mm okume on either side of 1” foam core. The carbon mast, by Composite Engineering, sports the true dinghy rig philosophy of swept back spreaders and no permanent backstay. The stem of the boat serves as the bowsprit for the asymmetrical spinnakers.
