Steve Rander and Kevin Flanigan met while skiing on Mt. Hood in the 1990’s. Kevin expressed his desire to get his family sailing on the Columbia River and Rander knew exactly how to make Kevin’s dream come true. Kevin commissioned Rander to build him a family boat and Steve selected the Wylie designed Scorpio as a base hull shape.

Kevin worked with Steve to develop a simple interior that followed the structure of the Schooner Creek COVE system. Pouring a WYLIECAT lead keel and bulb lowered Hana Mari’s center of gravity and reduced her draft by 12”. Her sloop rig was kept as simple as possible, consisting of two jibs, a spinnaker, and main.

Ballenger Spars built the rig.

Over the years, the Flanigans have cruised the Pacific Northwest. Moreover, Hana Mari was the start of an extensive line of projects and a great friendship between the Flanigan Family, Schooner Creek Boat Works, and WYLIE DESIGN GROUP.
